Matt and Nicole's wedding

So after finally getting to Canada (he he), the party began. Lots and lots of partying. Too much for my grandma self to handle! The stagette party went really well and we had an awesome time getting to know each other and even played a few games. Sorry the video is crooked, but for some reason, I turned the camera half way through. Nicole is in the white pants...

Friday, we spent the day decorating the reception hall. Her colors are a light aqua blue (very pretty) and red. We placed large martini glasses in the center, filled it with red and blue glass beads and put candles on top. Then sprinkled rose petals and little blue daisy's around the base. It looked really good! Then that evening, we had the rehearsal and the rehearsal dinner. It was FREEZING! Literally, I thought I was going to die! However, the rehearsal dinner we had finger foods and sushi catered in! YUMMY!

Saturday, Nicole and her bridesmaids got up early and went and got their hair and makeup done. Then they met over at Nicole's mom's house to get ready. Her dress was gorgeous and her hair and makeup looked perfect!

I don't have hardly any pictures of the actual wedding due to me getting to borrow Kerry's awesome camera which means that she has all of the photos on her camera. I will be getting those soon! Her ceremony went beautifully and then we went down to the waterfront to take pictures and then to the reception site.

At the reception, the New Yorkers sang a song that they wrote for their "toast". It was so awesome!

The reception was a stinking blast! So much fun! We danced the night away...

Friday Night Football...and Rehearsal Dinners

So even though I am hundreds of miles away, it is still football Friday. I just spoke with Josh who was on his way out the door to head to the field. I am sad because I don't get to hug him and wish him "good luck" right before he runs out. Tonight they are away, they are playing at Shawnee Mission North (not sure which school the field is on, but...). I am really hoping that we run these guys scoreless...we are not fond of our defensive record! Anyway, think good thoughts for the Falcons tonight!

Tonight is the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner for Matt and Nicole's wedding. We got up early this morning and began decorating the reception hall. There was so much to do and everyone was dragging due to the exceptionally late night last night. By the way, here they call bachelorette parties Stagette Parties (and Stag for bachelor party). We had a great time! I have some very funny pictures and even a video. Will definitely post when I get back to the states.

PS Canada is cold. Don't let anyone tell you differently. If they do, they are either 1) Canadian or 2) insane.

Canada Trip: Day 1

Day 1: Today is Wednesday. My awesome husband woke up with me to take me to the airport. We depart out house at 4:05 am set to arrive at the airport at 4:50 am. My flight leaves at 6:10 am. so my bag must be checked by 5:10 am. We hug good-bye and I head inside. I am struggling with both bags and my carry-on so the desk lady helps me. She says, "Where are you going?" I reply with excitement,"Halifax, Nova Scotia!" She says, "Okay, let's start with your passport." WHOOPS! With all of our morning rush (and my complete stupidity the night before), I did not grab my passport. The one I just got for this specific trip. I had to have it expedited so that it would be here in time for the trip. I desperately begin searching for my cell phone to call Josh. Not in my purse. Not in my carry-on....... CAN I PLEASE USE YOUR PHONE???

"Josh, I forgot my passport"
"Are you serious?"
"Yes, I am sorry"
"Should I go get it?"
"Can't, my bags have to be checked in 15 minutes"
Nice lady behind the counter, "I can rebook you on a later flight, 2:00 pm arriving at 10:00 pm tonight in Halifax, do you want it?"
I nod, "Josh, can you come back and get me?"
"Are you serious?"
"Yes"
"F***" Click.

:( Bad start to my day. Even worse start to Josh's day. But Nicole is able to pick me up at 10 pm so that part is good. Josh came back and got me and after 45 minutes of not talking on the way home and going to his school to work out a sub for the day, he began to cool off. Not completely, but enough that the next trip to the airport, he said he loved me still...even though I have done this to him twice!

Oh Canada...

Oh Canada! I am leaving Wednesday morning bright and early (my flight leaves at 6:10 am!) to head off to the beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia. My good friends Nicole and Matt are getting married (FINALLY!) and I get to go! I will be arriving Wednesday and returning Sunday! Keep your eyes peeled for awesome pictures of my trip!

PS Our Falcons did not win on Friday. It was a sad day in the Perkins' household...

Ledger's Baptism

Just to update my sleep sack... Man, I am good! Plus, it fit! Absolutely could not have gone smaller! I am still making another sack but it is not complete yet. Keep checking back!

Who is that little man with the uni-brow? Who did that to him!?!? :)

This is my handsome nephew/Godson and me on his baptism day! He did fabulously on his special day! He just layed there and stared up at the Paster while he sprinkled the water on his head. He is such a good baby! Got to love that GQ outfit!

Denver Weekend

This weekend we took off to Denver for an awesome long weekend to celebrate Ann and Cole's "Re-Wedding" celebration. Ann and Josh have been friends for every day of Josh's life (luckily, Ann had 4 days without him before he showed up!) and Josh is even Cole and Ann's daugher's Godfather!

On Saturday, Ann and Cole had a proper wedding with all the fixins. They have been married for almost 2 years but never got to have a wedding ceremony and reception. Josh was the officiant of the ceremony and did an awesome job! Since they were already married, he didn't have to be ordained. He bagged a little bit much on Ann, but I think she loves him anyway! They wrote their own vows and they were beautiful! The reception was a blast and we danced the night away!

Sunday, we woke up early, went to Panera (our tradition) and then headed to the Denver Zoo. For those of you who don't know me very well, I LOVE ZOOs! It was so neat! It was huge and had awesome enclosures for the animals. They even had Polar Bears! My favorite! Just like in KC though, it was Sunday and most definitely a "Day of Rest" for the animals because they were all sleeping!

The zoo was followed up by a Colorado Rockies baseball game. Such a cool stadium. The weather was a little warm for my fair skin so we lathered on the sunscreen. About the time we were completely covered, the clouds came out and the rain started to fall! Luckily for us, we were so high up that we were under the awning! Great seats! :) And, the Rockies won!

The evening ended fabulously! Sushi and playing with Sophia! Perfect!

Monday we got up early, went back to Panera (where else would we go? Snooze?), and then headed to Josh's favorite place: REI. If you don't know what that is, google it! I was lucky though because Josh let me buy something and he didn't buy a thing! Amazing! I got rain gear! This is awesome for someone who spends 2 seasons a year sitting in rain watching football and baseball!
All in all, an awesome weekend! Thanks Ann and Cole for letting us be a part of your special day!

Football Friday

This past Friday was the big kick off for football season for our high school team. Josh is the defensive coordinator of the Olathe South Falcons. It just so happens that this Friday was not only the first game of the season, but it was also against Josh's dad who coaches for Shawnee Mission West. It was a family affair!

Unfortunately for our Falcons and for Josh, we fell short with the final score being 23-29. It was an exciting game and both Perkins did great! Hopefully next week we'll be singing another song when we play Olathe Northwest.

Please note: Josh is in the background of this picture...laughing. What is he laughing at?

Extreme Banana Nut Bread

Recipe of the Month:

"Extreme Banana Nut Bread" - titled because of how AWESOME it is!

INGREDIENTS
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 cup butter or margarine
2 cups white sugar
2 cups mashed overripe bananas
4 eggs, beaten
1 cup chopped walnuts

DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9x5 inch loaf pans.
Sift the flour, salt and baking soda into a large bowl. In a separate bowl, mix together the butter or margarine and sugar until smooth. Stir in the bananas, eggs, and walnuts until well blended. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, and stir just until blended. Divide the batter evenly between the two loaf pans.
Bake for 60 to 70 minutes in the preheated oven, until a knife inserted into the crown of the loaf comes out clean. Let the loaves cool in the pans for at least 5 minutes, then turn out onto a cooling rack, and cool completely. Wrap in aluminum foil to keep in the moisture. Ideally, refrigerate the loaves for 2 hours or more before serving.
